In addition to meeting the fitness and medical standards found, cadets must complete the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) once each semester. The assessment consists of measurements in four areas:
- Body composition (height-to-waist measurement)
- 2 minute of hand-release push-ups
- 1 minute of sit-ups
- 2 mile run
A composite score is generated from points awarded in each of these four areas. Cadets must score at least a 75 on the assessment to pass. Det 009 cadets typically score at least a 90 on the PFA. Non-scholarship cadets are required to attempt the PFA once each semester, but are not initially required to pass. Scholarship cadets are required to pass the PFA each semester.
