Cadet Experience: Arabic

As an IMT cadet, I was awarded the opportunity to study Arabic through Kansas University’s eight week study abroad program that would normally go to Ifrane, Morocco during the summer. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we could not travel to Morocco this summer, but we were still able to have online Arabic classes five days a week. During the eight week program, we covered two semester’s worth of material. Even though we weren’t able to travel to Morocco, our professors still provided us with fun cultural activities, so we could get a taste of what life is like in Morocco. I enjoyed meeting other cadets, and I became very good friends with some Army cadets this summer even though we mainly talked on Zoom. Attending six hours of class a day was tiresome, but being with my new friends helped make class enjoyable! KU provided us a living stipend and they also offered technology assistance if we needed it. Overall it was a good experience, and I would love to do it again!
